The Rothschilds' Former Château for Sale at €180,000,000
The Château d’Armainvilliers, a sprawling 2,718-acre estate in Gretz-Armainvilliers, Just 30 miles east of Paris, is one of France’s most expensive properties on the market with Kretz Family Real Estate.
Built in the 12th century, the original fortress was purchased in 1877 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild, a member of the powerful Rothschild banking family known for their influence in European finance and philanthropy. He razed the structure and rebuilt it in an Anglo-Norman style, transforming it into a grand estate.
The Rothschild family held the estate for over a century before selling it to King Hassan II of Morocco in the early 1980s.
The king expanded and renovated the château under the direction of architect Michel Pinseau, transforming it into a Moroccan-inspired palace with gold-threaded furnishings, intricate mosaics from Fez and Marrakech, solid wood staircases, marble bathrooms, and even an underground railway.
The 96,875-square-foot residence includes 127 rooms—among them 23 suites and 17 bedrooms. Set on more than 2,718 acres, the estate also boasts a hunting reserve, two lakes, a stud farm, an organic farm, and 37 outbuildings scattered across the grounds.
With its blend of aristocratic European history and Moroccan-inspired luxury, the château is a rare offering on the market.
But at €180 million, who do you think should buy it?
