La Sultana: The Soviet Spy Superyacht for Sale

La Sultana: The Soviet Spy Superyacht for Sale

In the world of luxury yachts, there are vessels that stand out for their opulence, design, and unique histories.

This 213-foot superyacht has been transformed into a floating masterpiece that combines elegance, luxury, and a fascinating Cold War past that has captured the attention of yacht enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Originally launched in 1962 as Aji Petri, this vessel was built in Bulgaria and served as a passenger ferry in the Black Sea.

However, it later became a covert spy ship for the Soviet navy, involved in espionage missions in the North Atlantic. After the fall of the USSR, the vessel went through several transitions before being acquired by the La Sultana Group in 2007.

The La Sultana Group, renowned for its luxury resorts in Morocco, undertook a massive seven-year restoration project to transform the vessel into a luxury superyacht with an unrestricted budget.

Led by the French naval architecture firm Orion Naval Engineering, the superyacht was nearly completely rebuilt, down to the steel and aluminium replaced in the hull and superstructure, and with the addition of a Mitsubishi engine with a 5,500 nautical mile range.

Its remarkable transformation is often compared with the iconic 1943 built ‘Christina O’, a former World War II Canadian frigate converted into a floating palace by Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis in 1954 for $4 million.

Step inside La Sultana, and you'll be greeted by a Moroccan-inspired interior with Art Nouveau influences that showcases intricate carvings, archways, and patterned tile work.

The luxury charter yacht offers seven large guest staterooms, a dining room, lounge, a helipad, hammam, indoor swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi.

There are two outdoor areas, including a large upper deck capable of accommodating up to 150 people, with multiple seating areas and sunbathing spaces.

The yacht also provides a range of water toys, including tenders, jet skis, kayaks, windsurfing boards, and diving equipment, as well as two Nantucket Limited Edition Sellerie by Lancel boats.

La Sultana's journey from a Soviet spy ship to a luxurious superyacht is a testament to the dedication and vision of the La Sultana Group.

Its meticulous restoration and attention to detail have transformed this vessel into a floating masterpiece that offers an unforgettable experience for discerning charter guests.

With its captivating history, opulent design, and impressive amenities, La Sultana stands as a true icon in the world of luxury yachts.
