Hilfiger’s Quintessential English Estate in Greenwich, Connecticut

Hilfiger’s Quintessential English Estate in Greenwich, Connecticut

The original Denbigh Farm was once known as Quaker Ridge, and the property dates back to 1775 and has received the Landmark Recognition status from the Greenwich Historical Society.

In 1904 the property was purchased by a successful grain broker, William T. Carrington, who immediately sought out to transform the property into the elegant home that stands today.

After his first botched attempt to upgrade the farm, he enlisted architects Albro & Lindeberg, whose work has iconized the American Country Home.

Upon Carrington’s death in 1935, the property belonged to two generations of the Verner Reed family until 1995, when it was purchased by Tommy Hilfiger and his then-wife, Susie Hilfiger, who currently owns the property.

The couple met when Suzie was working in Tommy Hilfiger’s small clothing store, People’s Place, in Ithaca, NY, and were married in 1980. Suzie is largely credited for the brand’s early success with a key role in helping her husband build the Hilfiger brand into a world-class conglomerate, sold for $1.6B in 2006.

The couple was married for 20 years and raised their 4 children on the estate, where Suzie continued to live after their divorce. With the children now grown and living in California, Suzie Hilfiger is selling Denbigh Farm to move to the West Coast to be closer to her family.

Upgraded by renowned Classicist architect Alan Greenberg, the home’s many historic features, such as the beautiful antique floors and open fireplaces, have been preserved and enhanced.

Of note is the ballroom mantle appropriated from the former residence of the Hermes family in Paris, and the home’s collection of furniture comes from the one-time Paris home of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor—which can be negotiated into the sale.

The main residence offers 14,000 square feet of living space with 7 bedrooms and 9+4 baths, with additional accomodations available in a cottage and luxurious quarters above the garage.

Described as a ‘quintessential English country estate’, the 17+ acre property has beautiful grounds featuring a swimming pool, tennis court, English sculpture gardens, orchards, and an attractive goat house and chicken coops.

The country estate for sale property comes with A+ equestrian facilities with a 6-stall stable, 2 paddocks and a riding ring, surrounded by white picket fences.

There is also a miniature replica of Mt. Vernon on the grounds, used as a children’s playhouse.

Offering spectacular views of Long Island Sound, Denbigh Farm is one of the best of Greenwich’s grand estate homes.
